The previously named Large Synoptic Survey Telescope (LSST) in an 8.5 meter (27 feet) telescope under construction in Chile. Check out the video about it after the jump. The survey telescope uses an 8.4-metre mirror and a huge camera to photograph the whole southern sky every few nights.

It was renamed for astronomer Vera C. Rubin, whose galaxy-rotation work showed dark matter.
