Firefly Aerospace’s Blue Ghost lander touched down upright and stable on March 2, 2025. It landed in Mare Crisium, near the volcanic dome Mons Latreille. That made Firefly the first commercial company to pull off a fully successful soft landing on the Moon.
The lander carried 10 NASA instruments under the Commercial Lunar Payload Services program. It was built to work through a full lunar day, about two Earth weeks. Firefly’s HD footage shows the lander’s own shadow on the regolith.
Earlier private landers crashed, tipped over or never got there. This one stayed upright.
