In June 2014, Elon Musk announced that Tesla "will not initiate patent lawsuits against anyone who, in good faith, wants to use our technology." The pledge covers the company's whole portfolio of several hundred patents, including its fast battery-charging technology. Musk said opening the patents would help grow the market for electric cars.
