On January 17, 2016, a Falcon 9 launched the Jason-3 ocean satellite from Vandenberg. Its first stage touched down on the droneship Just Read the Instructions, only 1.3 meters off center, but the lockout collet on one landing leg failed to latch. The booster tipped over and exploded. Ice from heavy fog at liftoff was the likely cause.
