Lord Howe Island Stick Insect hatching

Lord Howe Island stick insect

The Lord Howe Island stick insect was thought extinct after rats reached the island in 1918, until a small population was found on the sea stack Ball's Pyramid in 2001. Melbourne Zoo's breeding program has since raised thousands. This clip shows a nymph slowly working its way out of its egg.
