Researchers at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology and the IASS Potsdam bubble methane up through a column of molten tin. The heat splits each molecule into hydrogen gas and solid carbon powder, so hydrogen can be made from natural gas without releasing carbon dioxide. The carbon can be collected and sold.
