Physicist Sabrina Gonzalez Pasterski in front of a chalkboard covered in equations.

Sabrina Gonzalez Pasterski started flying lessons at nine and had built her own single-engine plane by 14, before she was old enough to drive. She arrived at MIT at 17, graduated at the top of its physics program, and earned her PhD at Harvard under Andrew Strominger.

Her work on gravity and the symmetries of spacetime includes co-discovering the spin memory effect and helping complete the Pasterski–Strominger–Zhiboedov triangle, research that Stephen Hawking cited. She now leads the Celestial Holography Initiative at the Perimeter Institute, which asks whether our three-dimensional universe can be described by a two-dimensional theory, a possible route to quantum gravity.
