“Splashdown confirmed!” The first Version 3 Starship flew on May 22, 2026, with redesigned Raptor engines, from SpaceX’s new pad at Starbase. It was the twelfth flight test and the first in seven months.

The ship lost one vacuum engine soon after ignition and skipped its planned in-space relight. Even so, it deployed 20 dummy V3 Starlinks and two modified satellites that photographed its heat shield. It then made an on-target landing burn and splashdown in the Indian Ocean.

The booster lost an engine on the way up. Several engines didn’t relight for its return, and it hit the Gulf hard. The FAA has since required a mishap investigation. Mixed result, but a good start for V3.
