Taal Volcano in the Philippines had a five-minute phreatomagmatic eruption at 6:06 p.m. on October 8, 2026. That’s an explosion caused by rising magma hitting water. Phivolcs says the plume rose about 4,000 m above the main crater lake.

Twenty-nine families, 107 people, left Bilibinwang and Banyaga in Agoncillo, Batangas, the barangays hit hardest by ashfall. They are sheltering at an evacuation centre. Sulfur dioxide output jumped to 3,071 tonnes from 952 the day before.

Taal stays at Alert Level 1, meaning low-level unrest. Health officials advise people with asthma or other lung conditions to avoid the ash.
